In 2023, the space industry witnessed unprecedented growth and innovation, marked by a surge in private sector participation and renewed public interest in space exploration. The emergence of new players, advancements in space technology, and ambitious missions to celestial bodies have captivated the global community's imagination. TLEOSIA, through collaborative efforts, educational initiatives, and advocacy for innovation, has played a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of the space industry in Taiwan.

TLEOSIA Network: A Catalyst for Growth

Established in 2020 as a response to the growing significance of the space industry, TLEOSIA network capitalized on Taiwan's well-established position on the technological world map. Despite its relatively small size, Taiwan's strong foothold in the global technology landscape positioned the country to contribute significantly to the high-value-added space industry. Over the past three years, TLEOSIA has successfully attracted over 150 entities in Taiwan, with a total capital of well over 20 billion USD. The association's membership spans the entire value chain, including businesses, academic institutions, and scientific research entities, fostering diverse insights and encouraging cross-sector collaboration.

Increasingly active on the international stage, TLEOSIA invites foreign partners to join its robust network and benefit from the Taiwanese ecosystem. Taiwan, backed by national policies, governmental funding, and strategic initiatives by local companies, is emerging as a technology hub for electronic components and comprehensive solutions. The heritage of the Taiwanese semiconductor and electronic industry is particularly robust in the connectivity sector, with local companies gearing up for the beyond 5G revolution. Global leaders in the Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) market are already engaged in large-scale projects, leveraging Taiwan's strengths in satellite-enabled business models.

TLEOSIA's Role and Services

As the space industry experiences remarkable growth, TLEOSIA continues to evolve. Our alliance has established a unified collaboration platform to benefit both local and foreign entities seeking complex services. Leveraging in-depth data about the Taiwanese market, its capabilities, and technology trajectories, TLEOSIA partners with numerous companies, including major players and startups. As part of ITRI, TLEOSIA has access to world-leading R&D facilities, utilizing these resources for the active promotion of members on global markets, facilitating match-making activities, fostering partnerships for R&D and market development, acquiring public funding for R&D projects, and connecting with key actors in the local space sector.

Perspective on 2023

The past year was vibrant for TLEOSIA, marked by numerous initiatives leading to tangible business outcomes. The year began with the presence of Taiwanese Space Industry Representatives in Washington, DC, during Satellite2023, where TLEOSIA collaborated closely with TASA (Taiwan Space Agency) to ensure the event's success. The "Taiwan Space" booth attracted hundreds of visitors, resulting in partnerships initiated during the event.

On June 13th, the forum "Navigating the Global Multi-Orbit Satellite Landscape," organized by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, brought together industry experts to discuss the technical development, deployment strategies, and application advantages of multi-orbit satellites. Collaboration agreements were reached with local entities for hardware development and exploring the wide market of applications.

NDA signing

Taiwan has a thriving market, especially in its maritime sector, which is attractive to global players due to significant connectivity needs. TLEOSIA plays a crucial role in helping partners navigate this market by facilitating the establishment of suitable ventures. The association has successfully worked on projects with major global satellite companies and has more projects currently underway.

These and other topics were discussed during the TASTI (Taiwan International Assembly of Space Science, Technology, and Industry) 2023 conference, held by TASA and serviced by TLEOSIA. The conference concluded the robust 2023, shedding light on the year to come, which will be marked by TLEOSIA's even more intensive presence and Taiwanese Space producers in the global supply chain.
